Privacy
Privacy
Short version: no account, no email, no tracking cookies, and nothing about anyone's children. A Levy File holds only labels and figures you type.
The Ballot Reader
Text you paste is read and shown back to you. It is not saved in the database and not written to the site's logs. The worked examples are opened by a short page address that names the example, not your text.
Levy Math
The figures you type are put in the page address, so the result can be bookmarked. Like any page address they can appear in this site's own server access logs. Nothing is saved in the database.
A Levy File
A File stores property labels and values, and ballot questions with their figures. It never asks for a name, email, phone, street address, age or anything about children, and you should not type personal details into labels. A File is opened by a private key: the server keeps only a scrambled (hashed) copy. Your browser keeps the key in a cookie, and the File link carries it after the # sign, which browsers do not send to the server. Anyone holding the link can open, change or delete the File. A File nobody opens for 400 days is deleted, unless it has a running Pass. You can delete it yourself at any time.
Cookies
Two cookies, both needed for the site to work: one holds your File key, one protects forms against forgery. No analytics, advertising or third-party cookies. The only thing any page loads from another website is the banner ad from adengine.us on four information pages, described under Advertising below.
Server records
To stop abuse, the site counts requests per address per hour using a salted hash of the address and deletes those counts within three days. Nightly database backups are kept for 14 days. Copies taken just before and after each site update are kept until ten more updates have replaced them, so a deleted File can stay in those copies until then. The web server keeps ordinary access logs.
Payments
Payments are not switched on yet. When they are, PayPal will handle them; this site will keep only PayPal's subscription reference and the dates the Pass runs.
Advertising
Since 17 October 2026 four information pages (Ballot words, How the maths works, Pricing and About) show one banner ad from AdEngine (adengine.us), the small ad network run by WeldonPC, the company behind this site. For now the ads are for WeldonPC’s own services; they have nothing to do with any levy, and the site still takes no side. The home page, the Ballot Reader, Levy Math, your Levy File and its Ballot-day sheet, this page and the terms show no ad, so nothing you paste or type is ever on a page that loads an ad.
To show an ad, your browser loads a script from adengine.us, asks it for one banner, loads the banner image, and reports once that the page was viewed and once that the banner was shown. Like any website, adengine.us receives your IP address, your browser type and the address of this site with those requests.
- No cookies, no profile. AdEngine sets no cookies, gives you no ID and does not track you from site to site.
- How your IP address is used. adengine.us looks up the approximate city for your IP address in a location database kept on its own server (nothing is sent to anyone else), so that ads meant for one area are shown only there. It also uses the address to count each ad view or click only once and to leave out robots and WeldonPC’s own office traffic. The address is not stored with the counts; the temporary entries made from it expire within six hours and are cleared from the server within two days.
- What is kept. Daily totals only: page views for this site, and views and clicks for each ad. The adengine.us web server also keeps a standard access log (IP address, time, address requested, referring site, browser) for security; it is deleted on a rolling schedule.
- Clicking an ad passes through adengine.us, which counts the click, and then opens the advertiser’s site, which has its own privacy policy.
- Nothing about you is sold or shared.
Children
The site is for adults reading tax questions. It collects no personal information about anyone, including children.
